Running in the Patagonian Fjords - Paso del Trueno
Fjords, glaciers, snow-capped peaks - you can find the best of Patagonia in the remote and seldom-visited Reserva Nacional Kawésqar. Accessible only by boat, we partnered with our friends at Patagonian Fjord Expeditions to explore Paso del Trueno - a wild and undeveloped route along the fiordo de las Montañas.

Route Description
Our adventure began about 2 hours (by boat) west of Puerto Natales, in a small campground facing the Sarmiento Mountains. Our goal for the day was to run south until we reached Bahía los Hurios, where the floating refuge “Explorador” (our home for the next few days) is docked.
There’s no existing trail. We followed our friend and guide Hector up and down the hills and valleys, and through a couple complicated river crossings. The terrain was tough, at times rocky, steep or very wet and spongy. Incredible open views of the fjord and surrounding mountains throughout.
After almost 3 hours of running and scrambling we reached a lookout over Bahía los Hurios - our refuge was in sight!
